French-Ukrainian defense technology firm Alta Ares, specializing in AI-powered air defense solutions, has raised €50 million ($57 million) in fresh funding to expand production capacity, advance technology development, and strengthen its global presence.
The investment will be used to grow the company’s workforce, increase manufacturing operations in both France and Ukraine, and establish new regional offices across the Middle East and Asia.
Alta Ares develops air defense systems that integrate artificial intelligence with automated detection, identification, and interception technologies, enabling rapid responses to mass attacks involving drones, cruise missiles, and other airborne threats.
The company noted that demand for advanced air defense capabilities is rising as militaries confront increasingly sophisticated threats driven by drones and precision-guided munitions. According to Alta Ares, NATO nations are facing complex attack scenarios that can involve hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles launched within a single night, underscoring the need for highly autonomous, modular, and interoperable defense platforms.
Alta Ares currently fields two interceptor systems. The X-Lock interceptor is designed to neutralize short-range threats, including Shahed-type attack drones, at distances of up to 15 kilometers (9.3 miles). For longer-range missions, the Black Bird interceptor is capable of engaging cruise missiles, glide bombs, and other fast-moving aerial targets at ranges reaching 30 kilometers (18.6 miles).
Both systems are presently deployed in three active conflict zones, where operational feedback is helping the company enhance performance and accelerate technology improvements.
