Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky division has secured a $65 million advanced procurement contract to support the production of 10 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters for the US Army. The contract covers materials and associated services aimed at minimizing schedule risks and enabling a smoother transition into full-rate production.
Manufacturing will take place at Sikorsky’s facility in Stratford, Connecticut, with completion targeted for December 2026, according to a US Department of Defense notice. Oversight of the program will be handled by the Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
The award aligns with the Army’s broader effort to extend the operational life of its UH-60M fleet beyond 2050. This initiative focuses on midlife upgrades for helicopters that have been in service since the early 2000s, with plans to modernize 12 to 24 units annually, in addition to HH-60M medevac variants. The upgrade process will involve complete airframe disassembly to assess structural integrity and carry out critical repairs or component replacements. Since its introduction, the Black Hawk program has delivered more than 2,000 aircraft to the Army’s fleet.
