The US has partnered with Shield AI to integrate Hivemind autonomy software into the Low-Cost Uncrewed Combat System (LUCAS), a loitering munition designed for large-scale swarm operations. Inspired by the Iranian Shahed drone concept, LUCAS is intended to provide an affordable combat platform capable of overwhelming enemy defenses through mass deployment. Hivemind software will enable autonomous navigation, coordinated swarm tactics, and operations in contested or GPS-denied environments. The integration reflects the Pentagon’s increasing focus on AI-driven autonomous combat systems for future warfare.
