The Netherlands has awarded Raytheon a $627 million contract to acquire a Patriot air and missile defense system, including radars, launchers, and command-and-control units. Finalized within a short timeframe, the deal builds on a previous $529 million Patriot purchase made in January 2025.

The acquisition is intended to restore capabilities after the Netherlands donated key Patriot components to Ukraine, including three launchers and a radar system. The newly procured systems are expected to be delivered over the coming years and will be operated by the Defence Ground-Based Air Defence Command.

The Dutch government accelerated the procurement process amid concerns that missing available production slots could push deliveries as far out as 2033. Demand for Patriot systems has surged globally since the start of the Ukraine conflict, where they have proven effective against cruise and tactical ballistic missiles. Ongoing tensions in the Middle East have further increased demand.

Developed by Raytheon in collaboration with Lockheed Martin, the Patriot system integrates radar, command-and-control elements, launchers, and interceptor missiles into a comprehensive layered defense network. According to Raytheon, it remains the only combat-proven ground-based system capable of countering advanced long-range cruise missiles, tactical ballistic missiles, and a broad range of airborne threats.
