The US Army has awarded L3Harris Technologies a $65 million contract to manufacture rocket motors for the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS).

As part of the agreement, the company will produce key propulsion components, including M124 rocket motors, igniters, and exit cones, with deliveries planned between 2027 and 2028. The ATACMS remains a cornerstone of the Army’s long-range precision strike capability and has supported deep-fire missions for decades.

Scott Alexander, president of missile propulsion at L3Harris, emphasized the company’s continued commitment to maintaining production capacity for ATACMS while meeting both US and allied operational demands.

L3Harris has supported the ATACMS program for over 30 years, with primary manufacturing based at its Camden, Arkansas facility. The site produces large quantities of solid rocket motors annually and conducts extensive hot-fire testing to ensure quality and reliability.

Additional components are produced in Cincinnati, Ohio, where the company manufactures arm and firing devices essential for missile functionality.

Global demand for ATACMS has grown significantly in recent years. Ukraine has deployed US-supplied systems, although reports in March indicated that its missile inventory had been depleted following sustained operations against Russian targets.

Meanwhile, Taiwan received its first ATACMS batch in November 2024, while Morocco, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland collectively placed orders in July 2024 under a $227 million agreement.
