Italy has awarded Airbus a $1.6-billion contract for six A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport aircraft and long-term logistics support. The new fleet will replace Italy’s aging Boeing KC-767 tanker aircraft and strengthen the country’s aerial refueling and strategic transport capabilities. The A330 MRTT is widely used by NATO and allied nations due to its long-range performance, high fuel capacity, and multi-role flexibility. Capable of carrying passengers, cargo, or refueling aircraft in flight, the platform supports a wide range of military missions while improving interoperability with allied air forces.
