The US Navy Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport has awarded Arcfield a follow-on contract worth $75 million to continue supporting the Code 25 submarine combat control systems (CCS) programme with engineering and technical services.
The five-year contract was secured through Rite-Solutions, a company acquired by Arcfield in December 2025.
The CCS programme focuses on the development, integration, deployment, and long-term sustainment of combat control systems used aboard both new and active US Navy submarines. A major component of the programme is the AN/BYG-1, the Navy’s next-generation submarine combat control system.
Under the agreement, Arcfield will provide a wide range of engineering and technical support services, including model-based systems engineering, hardware and software development, cybersecurity, as well as systems integration and testing.
AN/BYG-1 Combat Control System
The AN/BYG-1 combat control system is designed to integrate sensor inputs and manage critical submarine combat functions such as target tracking, weapon control, and launch operations against both submarines and surface vessels. The system enhances situational awareness and operational effectiveness during underwater combat missions.
Unlike older submarine combat systems, the AN/BYG-1 uses commercial off-the-shelf hardware and software architectures, allowing easier upgrades and modernization throughout the operational life of the submarine.
Developed under a joint US-Australia programme office, the system is currently deployed on submarines operated by both navies. It is also being considered for integration into the future SSN-AUKUS nuclear-powered attack submarine programme planned for service with the Royal Navy and the Royal Australian Navy.
