The United States on Friday cleared a potential $1.5 billion sale of MH-60R Seahawk helicopters and associated equipment to New Zealand, aiming to enhance the country’s defense capabilities.
According to the US State Department, the deal would help New Zealand address current and emerging security challenges while improving protection of critical national infrastructure. The department added that the upgraded capability would further strengthen New Zealand’s homeland defense posture.
In a separate announcement, the State Department also approved a proposed $69 million sale of MK 54 lightweight torpedoes to New Zealand. Both proposed foreign military sales have been formally notified to Congress and remain subject to legislative approval.
