Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has secured a €140 million ($165 million) contract from Patria to deliver its Protector Remote Weapon Stations for the German and Swedish Common Armored Vehicle System (CAVS) 6×6 programs.
The agreement includes the supply of several hundred Protector RS4 systems, with deliveries scheduled through 2026 and extending into subsequent years.
Germany has placed a major order for 876 CAVS vehicles under a $2.3 billion procurement program, while Sweden has committed to 94 Patria platforms, adding to its earlier 321-vehicle contract signed in March 2024.
Alongside the RS4 deliveries, the German program will also feature the integration of Patria’s NEMO mortar turret on selected vehicle variants.
Protector RS4 Capabilities
The Protector RS4 is a modular, multi-mission remote weapon station engineered to support small- and medium-caliber armaments, including coaxial weapons and anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) integration.
Its fully stabilized 2+2 axis Detached Line of Sight (DLOS) architecture enables continuous target tracking independent of weapon movement, significantly improving engagement accuracy during mobile operations.
Designed as a platform-agnostic system, the RS4 can be deployed across land and maritime platforms, supporting both static defense and maneuver warfare roles.
The system integrates advanced electro-optical and imaging sensors, with configurable day/night configurations tailored to mission profiles.
Depending on configuration, the RS4 weighs 135–190 kg and stands 505–765 mm high (excluding weapons and ammunition).
