Vietnam’s Ministry of Defense has reportedly finalized a $250 million agreement with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems to establish local production of the Spike Firefly loitering munition, known in Hebrew as Maoz.
According to Intelligence Online, manufacturing will take place at a dedicated facility in Vietnam, supported by Israeli technology transfer. A Vietnamese firm will operate the plant after receiving the required production licenses from Israeli authorities, enabling domestic assembly and long-term sustainment of the system.
Designed for urban warfare, Spike Firefly is a 3-kilogram tactical loitering munition optimized for environments where limited visibility and civilian presence restrict conventional fire support options. It carries a 350-gram fragmentation or shaped-charge warhead and offers an operational range of up to 500 meters in dense urban terrain and 1,500 meters in open areas.
The system provides 15–30 minutes of flight endurance, depending on battery configuration, with standby endurance of up to two hours. The Israel Defense Forces have previously deployed Spike Firefly operationally, including during combat operations in Gaza following the October 7 Hamas attack.
