The United States Department of State has approved a potential $280 million foreign military sale to Jordan for Ku-band Multi-Function Radio Frequency Systems (KuMRFS) and associated equipment.

The KuMRFS is a short-range, high-resolution radar built to provide persistent airspace surveillance. Amman intends to procure the radars integrated with command-and-control systems, as well as generators and GPS receivers.

The proposed package also includes spare parts, repair components, specialized tools, testing gear, and training equipment. Additional support would cover US government and contractor engineering services, logistics, systems integration, on-site technical assistance, and program management.

The principal contractor for the deal would be RTX Missile Defense Technologies. Washington described the sale as consistent with US foreign policy and national security objectives, strengthening Jordan’s defense posture as a major non-NATO ally and key security partner in the Middle East.

KuMRFS Capabilities

With continuous 360-degree scanning, KuMRFS delivers real-time airspace monitoring, tracks multiple targets simultaneously, and maintains situational awareness in dynamic operational settings.

Originally developed to counter indirect fire threats, the system can detect, track, and classify rockets, artillery, and mortar rounds. It has since evolved into a multi-role sensor with expanding applications in counter-drone missions.

Its high-resolution radar performance enables detection of small, low-signature aerial systems often missed by conventional air defense radars. The system provides precise tracking and targeting data that can be integrated into layered air defense architectures and paired with interceptors such as guns, missile systems, and directed-energy weapons.
