Ohio-based ArmorSource has been awarded a $17.6 million contract by the US Army to supply 25,000 Advanced Combat Helmet Gen II (ACH Gen II) systems, reinforcing efforts to improve soldier protection while reducing equipment weight. Deliveries are scheduled to continue through May 31, 2028, with the next-generation helmets designed to provide enhanced ballistic defense, greater comfort, and improved operational performance.

The ACH Gen II is approximately 22 percent lighter than the legacy Advanced Combat Helmet while maintaining protection against fragmentation threats and 9mm ammunition. According to ArmorSource, the helmet is also capable of stopping high-velocity fragments and a range of handgun and rifle rounds, including 64-grain .22-caliber projectiles commonly used in .223 Remington ammunition traveling at speeds of up to 650 meters per second. Its reinforced outer shell is engineered to absorb blunt-force impacts and withstand significant compression forces, while the helmet’s lightweight design keeps total weight between 1.01 and 1.13 kilograms, substantially lower than the 1.36–1.72 kilogram weight range of the previous-generation ACH.
