Hanwha Aerospace has entered into an agreement with GE Aerospace to procure new engine kits for South Korea’s indigenous fighter jets and helicopters, local media reported.
The deal covers 40 F404 engine kits for the FA-50 Golden Eagle and its trainer variants — TA-50 and T-50 — along with 88 T700 engine kits for the KUH-1 Surion helicopter.
Under the arrangement, GE Aerospace will produce the engine components, while Hanwha will handle assembly, testing, and quality validation before delivering the completed powerplants to Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) for integration into the aircraft.
The F404 engine, recognized for its reliability and maintainability, has logged over 13 million flight hours worldwide and powers several platforms, including the F/A-18 Hornet, India’s Tejas, and the FA-50 series.
Meanwhile, the T700 engine—with a track record exceeding 100 million flight hours globally—is used in some of the world’s most proven helicopters, such as the UH-60 Black Hawk and AH-64 Apache, underscoring its durability and performance.
