The United States Army has awarded Leidos a $617 million contract to acquire additional launchers for the Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment 2 (IFPC 2) system.
The contract covers production and delivery of launchers, along with funding allocated for continued development, research, and system evaluations ahead of full-rate production. With this award, the Army’s total investment in the IFPC 2 program rises to approximately $1.2 billion, following earlier contracts issued in July and September worth a combined $356 million.
Leidos is expected to supply over 100 launchers through 2029 under a program ceiling valued at $4.1 billion.
The IFPC 2 system is a ground-based air defense solution designed to counter short- to medium-range threats, including enemy projectiles and unmanned aerial systems. Mounted on a tactical truck, it provides mobility and rapid deployment capability in dynamic combat environments.
The platform primarily employs the AIM-9X Sidewinder as its interceptor and integrates launchers, external sensors, and a dedicated battle command system within each battery. Depending on mission configuration, it can engage targets at ranges of up to 15 kilometers (9 miles).
