Germany is preparing to deploy a Patriot missile defense battery to Turkey under a NATO rotational mission aimed at reinforcing regional security. Around 150 German troops stationed in Husum will accompany the air defense system from late June until September, replacing a currently deployed US unit. The Patriot system is designed to intercept tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and hostile aircraft. NATO has already intercepted several Iranian ballistic missiles over Turkish territory since tensions escalated in the region. Germany had previously stationed Patriot systems in Turkey between 2013 and 2015 to help secure the Syrian border. The deployment highlights NATO’s continued commitment to protecting allied airspace and strengthening collective missile defense capabilities.
