Terra Drone Corporation has won a contract from Japan’s Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency to produce 300 domestically built modular unmanned aerial vehicles for training purposes.

The deal, worth 115.4 million yen ($735,000), requires deliveries to be completed by September 30, 2026. The award comes shortly after Terra Drone officially entered the defense sector earlier this year.

According to the company, Japan’s defense procurement environment is characterized by demanding standards and high barriers to entry, making the contract an important early sign of its ability to satisfy military requirements.

Terra Drone also noted that the Japanese government has allocated around 277.3 billion yen ($1.7 billion) in the current fiscal year to strengthen unmanned system-related defense capabilities.

The contract coincides with the company’s broader push into international defense markets. Last month, Terra Drone reportedly backed efforts to scale production of the Terra A-series interceptor drones in Ukraine, manufactured by Amazing Drones.

The initiative aims to combine Ukraine’s rapid drone development cycle and lower manufacturing costs with foreign investment and industrial-scale production capabilities.

Expansion efforts are also targeting the US market, where Terra Drone plans to establish a local subsidiary. In addition, NATO member states have been identified as key markets because of growing demand for interoperable and affordable unmanned systems that align with alliance procurement standards. The company is also pursuing opportunities across parts of Asia and the Middle East.
