Peru has placed an order for an additional C-27J Spartan tactical transport aircraft as it continues expanding its airlift capabilities for disaster relief, medical evacuation, and operations in remote areas.
With the new acquisition, the Peruvian Air Force’s C-27J fleet will increase to five aircraft, with delivery expected in 2027.
Leonardo stated that the aircraft will be Peru’s first C-27J delivered in the “Next Generation” configuration, featuring upgraded avionics and aerodynamic enhancements designed to improve operational efficiency and overall performance.
Since entering service in 2015, the Spartan fleet has played a major role in Peru’s operations across the Andes and other isolated regions with limited infrastructure.
According to Leonardo, the fleet had accumulated nearly 16,000 flight hours by early 2026, supporting hundreds of medical evacuation missions along with cargo transport, passenger movement, and emergency supply operations.
The C-27J is capable of operating from short and unprepared runways, including locations with minimal lighting and ground support, making it a key asset for Peru’s logistics and disaster response missions.
Growing Global Demand for the C-27J
Peru’s latest purchase marks the 100th C-27J aircraft ordered worldwide across 21 operators, reflecting increasing international demand for tactical airlifters capable of operating in austere and challenging environments.
In February, Saudi Arabia ordered four C-27J Maritime Patrol Aircraft equipped with integrated maritime strike capabilities, marking the first acquisition of the armed maritime variant.
Separately, Leonardo signed a contract in December 2025 to provide logistics and simulator support for the Italian Air Force’s fleet of 12 C-27J Spartans.
Earlier, in December 2024, Slovenia received its second C-27J Spartan aircraft for service with the Slovenian Armed Forces’ 15th Aviation Wing.
