The United States has cleared a potential $1.5 billion Foreign Military Sale to Austria for 12 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters along with associated equipment and support packages.
According to the US State Department, the acquisition will strengthen Austria’s ability to address evolving security challenges, enhance deterrence capabilities, and improve interoperability with US and coalition forces during joint operations. The department also noted that the sale aligns with US foreign policy and national security interests by bolstering the defense capabilities of a European partner that contributes to regional stability and economic development.
The proposed transaction has been formally submitted to Congress, where it must undergo the legislative review process before it can proceed.
