Hanwha Aerospace and Thales have entered into a partnership to assess the integration of Hanwha’s Chunmoo guided missile family with Thales’ X-Fire launcher system.

The collaboration will focus on incorporating three Chunmoo munitions into the platform: the CGR080 guided rocket with an 80-kilometer range, the CTM-MR missile capable of reaching 160 kilometers, and the CTM290 tactical ballistic missile with a range of up to 290 kilometers.

Developed as a modular launcher capable of accommodating multiple missile types and future strike weapons, X-Fire supports Europe’s efforts to enhance sovereign long-range firepower capabilities. The launcher, created jointly by Thales and Soframe, is mounted on the Daimler Truck Zetros chassis and is designed for rapid deployment and high mobility. Thales has promoted X-Fire as a successor to France’s aging multiple launch rocket system fleet and carried out its first live-fire demonstrations on May 20.

By integrating the combat-proven Chunmoo missile family, X-Fire could acquire an effective long-range strike capability in a shorter timeframe than developing an entirely new missile inventory.

South Korea’s K239 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket system has already secured customers in Europe, including Poland, Estonia, and Norway. For Hanwha, pairing its missiles with a European launcher could open additional opportunities within future long-range fires programs, providing customers with greater flexibility while expanding the reach of Chunmoo munitions in international markets.

The companies stated that the initiative is intended to deliver a scalable and precise long-range strike solution that can meet evolving operational requirements across Europe and other regions.
