The United States has approved a potential $1.5 billion Foreign Military Sale to Austria involving 12 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters along with associated equipment and support systems.

In a statement, the US State Department said the deal would strengthen Austria’s ability to address existing and emerging security challenges while enhancing interoperability with US and coalition forces during joint operations. The department noted that the sale aligns with the shared objective of improving military cooperation between the two countries.

Officials also emphasized that the proposed transaction supports US foreign policy and national security interests by reinforcing the security of a European partner that contributes to regional stability and economic growth. The State Department has formally notified Congress of the proposed sale, which remains subject to legislative approval.
