Czech defense company CSG is reportedly seeking to acquire a stake in Franco-German armored vehicle manufacturer KNDS, according to a Reuters report.
The company recently approached KNDS’ German family shareholders regarding a potential investment in the defense group, which produces platforms such as the Leopard main battle tank and Caesar artillery system.
Sources familiar with the discussions told Reuters that the shareholders are currently more focused on preparing for a possible stock market listing and a partial stake sale to the German government.
Berlin is reportedly evaluating the purchase of a 30 to 40 percent share in KNDS ahead of any future initial public offering (IPO).
KNDS was formed through the merger of Germany’s Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and France’s Nexter. Ownership of the company is split evenly, with the French state holding 50 percent and German family shareholders controlling the remaining half.
According to Reuters, a future IPO could value KNDS at approximately 20 billion euros ($23 billion).
The reported move comes at a challenging time for CSG, which completed its own IPO earlier this year. Since then, the company’s valuation has reportedly declined amid a broader downturn in defense stocks and investor concerns related to manufacturing capacity.
Neither CSG nor KNDS publicly commented on the reported negotiations.
Defense Industry Consolidation Accelerates
The reported KNDS discussions reflect a broader wave of acquisitions and strategic investments across the global defense sector.
In April, KNDS France completed the acquisition of Texelis Defense, later renaming the business KNDS Mobility to strengthen expertise in drivetrains and mobility systems for wheeled and tracked military vehicles.
Earlier, in March, Leonardo acquired Iveco Group’s defense division in a deal valued at 1.6 billion euros ($1.8 billion), while AeroVironment purchased California-based drone manufacturer Empirical Systems Aerospace for roughly $200 million.
In January, Elbit Systems UK also expanded its European footprint by acquiring UAV Tactical Systems to strengthen its position within NATO and European defense markets.
