Saab has secured a contract worth $22.4 million from the US Army to supply Vehicle Tactical Engagement Simulation System (VTESS) base kits, further supporting the military’s efforts to enhance realistic combat training capabilities.
The award is part of Lot 2 under a larger framework agreement designed to provide advanced training systems across the US Army. The overall contract framework has a potential value of up to $60.8 million and will remain in effect for a period of 60 months.
According to Saab, the VTESS solution employs laser-based detector systems that can be installed on both tactical and non-tactical vehicles, as well as associated weapon platforms. Once integrated, these assets can participate in highly realistic force-on-force training exercises that closely replicate battlefield conditions.
The system captures detailed engagement data, including successful hits, missed shots, vehicle movements, and simulated casualty information. This information is then used to provide commanders with comprehensive situational awareness and supports detailed after-action reviews for participating personnel.
VTESS also maintains compatibility with the US Army’s existing Tactical Engagement Simulation System (TESS) infrastructure, enabling seamless integration with legacy equipment while expanding training capabilities for large-scale manoeuvre and combat exercises.
