Sensor specialist HENSOLDT UK has been awarded two contracts by SRT Marine Systems to deliver 50 coastal surveillance radar units for national maritime monitoring networks. These systems will form part of integrated coastal surveillance frameworks aimed at enhancing detection, tracking, and situational awareness across high-traffic and strategically sensitive maritime areas.

Built on HENSOLDT UK’s Coherent Shore-Based Sensor architecture, the radars are engineered for continuous operation in challenging coastal conditions, where factors such as adverse weather, sea clutter, and dense vessel traffic complicate reliable detection.

At the core of each system is the SharpEye radar, a solid-state transceiver designed to provide long-range surveillance with improved reliability and reduced maintenance compared to conventional mechanically scanned radars. Widely deployed in coastal monitoring, naval navigation, and port security roles, SharpEye enhances the detection of small and low radar cross-section targets, including fast-moving boats in cluttered maritime environments.

HENSOLDT UK has expanded SharpEye deployments in recent years across multiple national programs. In 2024, the company secured contracts to upgrade coastal radar systems supporting the UK’s maritime security infrastructure, strengthening surveillance coverage along critical shorelines. In 2023, SharpEye was selected for integration into naval patrol vessels and coastal stations in Southeast Asia, where regional governments are advancing maritime domain awareness to better oversee territorial waters and key shipping routes.
