Indra has entered into an agreement with Iveco Defence Vehicles (IDV) to serve as the prime integrator for the delivery of 34 amphibious combat vehicles to the Spanish Marine Infantry. While specific delivery timelines remain undisclosed, Spain’s Ministry of Defence has earmarked €374 million ($441 million) for the acquisition, according to InfoDefensa.
Under the arrangement, IDV will act as the design authority and supply the chassis based on its SuperAV 8×8 platform. Indra will handle the integration of mission-critical systems, including command-and-control architecture, situational awareness suites, and weapon stations. Integration work will be carried out at Indra’s Gijón facility as well as a new production site yet to be finalized.
The program covers 28 troop carrier variants, along with two command post vehicles, two recovery units, and two ambulances. Indra will additionally take responsibility for developing the final three variants, which will be fully indigenous in design.
The SuperAV platform has already been fielded through a partnership between IDV and BAE Systems for the United States Marine Corps, where it is known as the Amphibious Combat Vehicle. The collaboration began in 2011, with a contract awarded in 2018 and initial deliveries commencing in late 2020, replacing legacy Amphibious Assault Vehicles dating back to the Vietnam War era. The same platform also underpins the Italian Navy Marine Brigade’s Veicolo Blindato Anfibio, while in Spain it will be designated as the Marine Infantry Amphibious Combat Vehicle.
