Swedish defense company Saab and Poland’s Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) have signed an agreement to expand cooperation on naval defense programs covering submarines, surface combatants, and underwater systems.
The partnership includes lifecycle support services for naval platforms and plans to integrate PGZ’s maritime subsidiaries into Saab’s global supply chain. The companies will also pursue joint export opportunities involving selected surface and underwater vessels, including rescue ship platforms.
As part of the agreement, Saab and PGZ will assess opportunities for the production and international marketing of Saab’s Autonomous Ocean Drone while also examining potential collaboration in heavyweight torpedo development. The companies further plan to establish an Underwater Technology Centre in Poland to support future maritime defense projects.
The latest agreement builds on cooperation frameworks signed in March related to submarine maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities connected to Poland’s Orka submarine modernization program.
PGZ has continued strengthening partnerships with European and US defense companies as Warsaw accelerates modernization of its naval capabilities and domestic defense industry. Earlier this year, PGZ partnered with Frankenburg Technologies to manufacture Mark I anti-drone missiles in Poland, including plans for a local production facility capable of producing up to 10,000 missiles annually.
During the same period, PGZ and Milrem Robotics agreed to jointly develop technologies focused on integrating payload systems onto unmanned ground vehicles. In October 2025, PGZ also entered a partnership with Rheinmetall for the production of military support vehicles for the Polish Armed Forces.
