BAE Systems has won contracts worth approximately $171 million to deliver advanced programmable ammunition to Sweden and Finland.

The agreements are expected to strengthen both nations’ artillery and air defense stockpiles amid rising security concerns and increased defense spending across Northern Europe.

Signed with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration and the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command, the contracts cover Bofors 40mm and 57mm pre-fragmented, programmable, proximity-fused (3P) ammunition. These rounds are capable of countering a wide range of threats, including drones, missiles, fast-moving surface targets, and ground-based threats.

Under the deal, Sweden will procure both 40mm and 57mm calibers, while Finland’s Navy will receive additional 57mm ammunition to replenish and expand its existing inventory. The new rounds will enhance the range, versatility, and effectiveness of naval gun systems and land-based air defense units.

The programmable ammunition will be integrated across current platforms, including armored vehicles and anti-aircraft systems, ensuring adaptability against evolving regional threats.

BAE Systems has expanded its presence in Sweden and Finland through several major contracts over the past two years.

In June 2025, the company secured a contract valued at nearly $62 million with the Swedish Armed Forces for additional 155mm BONUS precision-guided artillery munitions, supporting Sweden’s efforts to boost long-range strike capabilities.

Earlier, in May and December 2024, BAE Systems entered into a multi-billion-dollar framework agreement with Sweden and Denmark for new CV9035 infantry fighting vehicles. Under the framework, Sweden committed to procuring dozens of vehicles, while Denmark ordered more than 100, including comprehensive training, logistics, and long-term support packages.
