Raytheon has secured an order from Blue Raven for 120 SharpSight surveillance radars, representing the largest procurement yet for the system.
The contract includes production and sustainment support for the radar platforms, while Blue Raven — formerly known as Crestwood Technology Group — will oversee worldwide resale and distribution operations.
SharpSight is a software-defined, multi-domain surveillance radar developed for both crewed aircraft and unmanned aerial systems. The radar incorporates technologies drawn from Raytheon’s HISAR and SeaVue radar families and is designed to support missions such as maritime patrol, border surveillance, anti-surface warfare, search and rescue, and long-range monitoring operations.
SharpSight Radar Capabilities
The system features an open-architecture modular design intended to streamline integration and future upgrades across a range of airborne platforms.
One platform already equipped with SharpSight is the MQ-9B SeaGuardian developed by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems.
The radar can simultaneously detect, track, and classify more than 1,000 targets by combining radar processing technology with automatic identification system (AIS) data.
SharpSight is also optimized for detecting small targets at extended distances, allowing crewed and uncrewed aircraft to conduct surveillance missions from higher altitudes and safer stand-off ranges while maintaining broad-area coverage.
The radar is intended for missions including coastal and littoral surveillance, anti-piracy patrols, and monitoring of economic exclusion zones. It can additionally support interdiction missions targeting smuggling and trafficking, as well as overland imaging, mapping, and environmental observation operations.
