Poland has signed a contract valued at approximately 600 million Polish złotys ($158.7 million) with Fabryka Broni Radom for the procurement of nearly 46,000 MSBS Grot A3 assault rifles chambered in 5.56mm, marking another significant step in the modernization of the country’s armed forces.
The agreement, concluded between Poland’s Armament Agency and the state-owned manufacturer, provides for deliveries through the end of 2027. According to previous local media reports, the contract includes 45,800 rifles, with an option for an additional 22,900 units if exercised.
In addition to the Grot rifles, Poland is expected to acquire 13,400 Vis 100 semi-automatic pistols in 9mm caliber and approximately 1,300 underbarrel grenade launchers chambered for 40mm ammunition.
The MSBS Grot A3 represents the latest evolution of Poland’s domestically developed service rifle family. The upgraded variant incorporates operational feedback from military personnel and lessons learned from recent deployments, with enhancements focused on ergonomics, durability, and overall reliability.
While retaining the firing rate of earlier models at approximately 700 to 900 rounds per minute, the A3 features a slimmer handguard, an improved gas regulation system, a strengthened stock attachment mechanism, and a redesigned receiver block. The rifle offers a muzzle velocity of around 890 meters per second and an effective range of up to 500 meters.
Developed jointly by Fabryka Broni and the Military University of Technology, the Grot rifle family entered service with the Polish Armed Forces in 2017 to replace legacy small arms. Its modular architecture allows for mission-specific configurations and supports both conventional and bullpup layouts.
