Canada has awarded General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada (GDLS-Canada) a nearly CAD $2 billion ($1.4 billion) contract for 190 additional Armored Combat Support Vehicles (ACSVs). The agreement also includes production of 35 additional vehicles that Canada intends to provide to Ukraine.Alongside the vehicle order, Canada signed a strategic partnership agreement with GDLS-Canada focused on future armored vehicle development, production, and long-term fleet sustainment. The partnership aims to accelerate integration of emerging technologies, improve battlefield readiness, and simplify future vehicle upgrades.The latest order expands Canada’s ACSV program launched in 2019, which originally included 360 vehicles based on the LAV 6.0 platform. The vehicles are designed to replace aging LAV II Bison and M113 fleets. The LAV 6.0 provides mobility, protection, and operational flexibility with a maximum speed exceeding 100 km/h and a range of approximately 600 km.The fleet will be produced in eight configurations, including ambulances, troop carriers, command vehicles, engineering support platforms, electronic warfare systems, and repair and recovery variants. Full operational capability is expected by 2028, with supporting infrastructure scheduled for completion by 2030.
