Babcock has strengthened its long-standing partnership with the Royal Canadian Navy after securing a new agreement to continue supporting the Victoria-class diesel-electric submarine fleet. The contract extends critical in-service support for six years while providing options to continue maintenance and sustainment activities until the submarines are retired from service. The agreement ensures that the aging underwater fleet remains operationally ready while Canada advances plans to acquire a modern generation of submarines over the coming decade. Over nearly two decades of cooperation, Babcock has built extensive technical expertise in submarine maintenance, supply chain management, engineering services, and fleet modernization. The company’s sustainment activities have generated billions of dollars in economic benefits for Canada, supported hundreds of domestic suppliers, and created thousands of skilled jobs across the national defense sector. In addition to traditional defense partnerships, Babcock has expanded collaboration with academic institutions, Indigenous organizations, and small and medium-sized businesses to strengthen Canada’s industrial base and develop future technical expertise. Company leadership stated that the renewed agreement will enhance the performance and reliability of the Victoria-class fleet while ensuring Canada maintains critical submarine sustainment capabilities. The contract also establishes a strong foundation for supporting the transition to the Royal Canadian Navy’s next-generation submarine program, helping preserve specialized skills and industrial capacity required for future undersea defense operations.
