Gentex Corporation has been awarded a $44.8 million contract to supply advanced helmet systems for US Army helicopter crews over the next five years. The contract includes the company’s HGU-56/P rotary-wing helmets, Apache helmet assemblies, spare components, and upgrade kits, supporting the Army’s efforts to maintain the operational readiness and long-term sustainment of its aviation protective equipment. The award further strengthens Gentex’s decades-long partnership with the Army, which has relied on the company since the 1990s for the supply, maintenance, and modernization of helicopter crew helmet systems.
The HGU-56/P helmet is engineered to provide enhanced impact and ballistic protection while integrating essential mission equipment such as communications systems and night vision devices. Weighing under 2 kilograms (4 pounds), the helmet features communication earplugs, active noise reduction, and dual polycarbonate visors that block more than 90% of ultraviolet radiation. Available in four sizes, the system can also be fitted with optional accessories, including low-light vision goggles, lower-face protection, and windblast protection to enhance crew safety during demanding helicopter operations.
