Oshkosh Defense has won a US Army contract to supply 97 Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) A2 Low-Velocity Airdrop (LVAD) cargo trucks in both 6×6 and 4×4 configurations.

The FMTV A2 LVAD Cargo vehicles are designed to provide logistics support to Mobile Brigade Combat Teams, enabling sustained mobility and resupply during expeditionary operations.

The contract also includes Arctic Kits, allowing the vehicles to operate effectively in extreme cold and austere environments, in line with the US Army’s growing emphasis on Arctic operations and readiness.

Built for rapid airdrop of vehicles and supplies into contested or infrastructure-denied areas, the FMTV A2 LVAD reduces dependence on fixed bases and established supply routes.

The 4×4 FMTV A2 variant entered testing in mid-2024 and successfully completed three airdrop demonstrations at the US Army’s Yuma Proving Grounds in Arizona in early 2025. Available configurations include a 2.5-ton Cargo Van and a 3-ton Cargo model.

The 2.5-ton Cargo Van offers a payload capacity of 5,000 pounds and a cargo area measuring 90 square feet, while the 3-ton Cargo 4×4 variant increases payload capacity to 6,000 pounds. The latter can reach speeds of up to 62 mph and provides a cargo volume of 145.8 cubic feet.

The FMTV A2 6×6 family, which completed airdrop testing in 2024, includes multiple variants and can carry up to 8 tons of cargo. Its cargo bed offers a volume of 164.7 cubic feet, with the 8-ton Cargo variant capable of hauling 16,000 pounds and achieving a top speed of 60 mph.
