Sweden and Denmark announced on Tuesday that they will jointly procure air defense systems valued at 2.6 billion Swedish kronor ($290 million) for Ukraine, as the country continues to face intense Russian missile and drone attacks.

Under the plan, Sweden will contribute 2.1 billion kronor ($234 million), with Denmark funding the remaining amount, to provide Ukraine with the TRIDON Mk2 mobile anti-aircraft artillery system, according to the two nations’ defense ministers.

The announcement comes as Ukraine struggles to protect critical infrastructure from sustained bombardment. An AFP analysis published Monday found that while Russia launched fewer drones and missiles in January compared to the previous month, attacks still caused significant damage to Ukraine’s energy network.

Severe disruptions to electricity, heating, and water supplies have become some of the worst of the nearly four-year conflict, pushing parts of the country closer to a humanitarian crisis.
