The British Army has officially received its first fully UK-built 8×8 Boxer armored vehicle, unveiled earlier this year at an international conference. Produced at Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land’s Telford facility, the vehicle was delivered to Bovington, where it will serve as a training platform and help personnel gain expertise in its maintenance. This delivery forms part of a £5-billion ($6.1-billion) program to provide the British Army with 623 Boxer vehicles and 148 Challenger 3 tanks, all set for operational deployment by 2030. It also marks the UK’s first domestically produced armored vehicle in over a decade, following the end of Terrier armored fighting vehicle production in 2013. The modular, wheeled 8×8 Boxer will be deployed in the army’s Strike Brigades, built for rapid troop and equipment transport across varied terrain. Measuring 7.93 meters long, 2.37 meters high, and 2.99 meters wide, the vehicle carries up to 11 personnel, reaches speeds of 103 km/h (64 mph), and has a range of 1,050 km (652 miles).
