Estonia has concluded a defense partnership with South Korea to purchase the K239 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket system (MLRS), strengthening the nation’s deep-strike and deterrence capabilities amid regional security concerns.
Hanwha Aerospace, the system’s manufacturer, will deliver the Chunmoo as a complement to Estonia’s six HIMARS launchers from the United States—ordered in 2022 and officially received in early 2025. Estonia is also pursuing further HIMARS procurement to enhance interoperability within NATO.
Upon induction, Estonia will become the second European operator of the Chunmoo following Poland’s adoption of the system.
Poland ordered more than 200 Chunmoo launchers in 2022, followed by an additional 72 in 2024. The first launcher, named “Homar-K,” entered service in 2023.
In April 2025, Poland’s WB Electronics and Hanwha Aerospace entered into a production partnership to manufacture Chunmoo missiles domestically within three years, with the possibility of exporting to other European countries.
Later that year, Sweden’s Saab and Hanwha signed an agreement to study integration of the Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb with the Chunmoo system, expanding its strike versatility.
