Latvia has finalized a €50 million defense contract with Germany’s Dynamit Nobel Defence (DND) to procure the Skorpion 2 remote mine-laying system and AT2+ anti-tank mines. The acquisition strengthens NATO’s eastern flank and enhances Latvia’s readiness for rapid defense along its borders.

According to the Latvian Ministry of Defence, the agreement includes delivery of the Skorpion 2 systems, AT2+ mines, and a complete support package covering training, logistics, and technical documentation. Officials highlighted the deal as a milestone in upgrading Latvia’s combat engineering capabilities and bolstering NATO’s collective deterrence posture in the Baltic region.

The Skorpion 2 system provides a modernized, mobile mine-laying solution capable of deploying minefields within minutes to counter hostile advances. Each platform can distribute hundreds of AT2+ scatterable mines across distances of up to 2,000 meters, providing a flexible and responsive defense layer.

The AT2+ mines incorporate advanced fuzing technologies, including magnetic, seismic, and pressure sensors to detect and neutralize armored threats. Equipped with programmable self-destruct mechanisms, these mines adhere to NATO’s safety standards while minimizing post-conflict risks.
