Denmark will provide Ukraine with 15,000 extended-range artillery shells, according to an announcement by Mykhailo Fedorov. The shipment follows Kyiv’s request for Copenhagen to redirect planned acquisitions from shorter-range munitions to long-range artillery ammunition, with a portion of the shells already delivered.

Earlier this year, Denmark unveiled an additional $541 million military assistance package for Ukraine, partly funded through proceeds generated from the sale of F-16 fighter aircraft. With the latest commitment, Denmark’s total military assistance to Ukraine in 2026 is expected to reach nearly $1.99 billion.

The growing use of unmanned aerial systems on the battlefield has increased the strategic importance of long-range artillery, allowing Ukrainian forces to engage targets at greater distances while minimizing exposure to enemy threats. Fedorov has previously emphasized the need for artillery ammunition capable of striking targets at ranges of at least 30 kilometers.

Ukraine is estimated to require approximately 1.2 million long-range 155mm artillery rounds in 2026, with Rheinmetall indicating it could supply around 100,000 rounds. Separately, Fedorov recently confirmed that Norway would finance the procurement of additional long-range artillery ammunition to support Ukrainian operations along the front lines.
