Sudan has reportedly taken delivery of nearly 100 Mohafiz infantry mobility vehicles manufactured in Pakistan as it seeks to improve battlefield mobility and convoy security amid its continuing conflict with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Local media reports, citing military sources, indicate that the armored vehicles arrived in several shipments and are planned for deployment in the difficult operational environments of Kordofan and Darfur.
The vehicles are expected to provide protected mobility for personnel and logistical supplies along major roads, while also supporting urban clearance operations. Their introduction is intended to strengthen Sudanese forces against the highly mobile four-wheel-drive pickup trucks widely used by RSF units.
No official details regarding the value, delivery schedule, or contractual terms of the reported sale have been released by either Sudanese or Pakistani authorities.
The vehicle delivery is reportedly linked to a wider $1.5 billion military procurement and modernization effort announced by Khartoum in January. The broader package includes Pakistani Shahpar tactical reconnaissance and strike UAVs and spare parts for Sudan’s Chinese-Pakistani K-8 Karakorum light attack aircraft.
The acquisitions will complement Sudan’s diverse military inventory, which largely consists of Soviet-era platforms alongside locally modified Sarsar armored vehicles, Russian Sukhoi and Mikoyan aircraft, Mil-series helicopters, and Iranian Mohajer unmanned systems.
Mohafiz: Mobility and Protection
The Mohafiz is a roughly 5-meter-long protected mobility platform designed to provide enhanced survivability for personnel operating in hostile environments. Its B6 protection level is intended to withstand medium-arms fire and fragmentation, while B7 configurations offer protection against armor-piercing rifle rounds.
The vehicle traces its design lineage to the Toyota Land Rover Defender, with subsequent variants incorporating Land Cruiser-based configurations. A 200-horsepower turbo-diesel engine gives the platform a claimed maximum speed of 120 km/h and a range of approximately 600 km.
