Raytheon has secured a $1.7 billion U.S. Army contract to deliver the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS) to both American forces and Poland.
The package includes nine AESA radars, plus spare parts, engineering services, testing, and development activities. With the deal, Poland becomes the first U.S. ally to add LTAMDS to its national air and missile defense system.
Intended to replace the legacy Patriot radar, LTAMDS offers 360-degree coverage and advanced tracking capabilities. The radar has already passed eight flight tests and earned Milestone C approval, paving the way for low-rate production beginning in 2025.
LTAMDS is integrated with the Army’s broader Integrated Air and Missile Defense System, anchored by Northrop Grumman’s IBCS. Poland was also the first partner nation to adopt IBCS in 2018 under its WISŁA modernization effort, which merges older Patriot systems into a single battle network.
Additionally, Military Electronic Works (WZE) of Poland has been tapped as the program’s first overseas supplier, with a September agreement to manufacture energy storage modules for the new radar.
