TAURUS Systems, the joint venture between MBDA and Saab, has won a contract from the German government to manufacture the next-generation TAURUS NEO stand-off missile, reinforcing Germany’s long-range precision strike capability.

The agreement, awarded by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support, establishes a serial production line for the enhanced missile system.

With a range of more than 500 kilometers, the TAURUS NEO enables the German Air Force to engage heavily defended targets while remaining outside hostile air defense envelopes, significantly reducing risk to aircraft and crews.

MBDA stated that the missile will make a critical contribution to both German and NATO defense, delivering precision strike performance through a modular, state-of-the-art stand-off weapon.

TAURUS NEO is a next-generation long-range missile designed for precision attacks against high-value and well-protected targets. Its modular architecture supports launch from multiple platforms, including aircraft, land-based systems, and potentially naval platforms, offering flexibility across a wide range of operational scenarios.

Advanced navigation systems, target recognition capabilities, and resistance to electronic countermeasures ensure high accuracy and survivability against sophisticated air defense networks.

Development of the new technologies began under a TAURUS maintenance and modernization contract awarded in December 2024, accelerating the timeline for fielding the first systems.

The latest agreement expands production capacity while further advancing system capabilities, ensuring the modular missile design remains aligned with evolving operational demands.

MBDA has more than doubled missile output across its portfolio since 2023 and plans to invest €2.4 billion between 2025 and 2029 to sustain and expand its production surge.
