The US Air Force is strengthening its aerospace testing infrastructure through the creation of the AEDC Velocity Alliance, a new industry framework intended to speed up construction and modernization work at key test facilities. The alliance was created by the Arnold Engineering Development Complex and the Air Force Test Center to provide access to a qualified group of contractors capable of responding to future infrastructure requirements.Eligible participants can include established defense companies, emerging contractors, small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and research bodies. Each organization must meet required technical, security, and cybersecurity standards before participating. The framework is designed to cover a wide range of work, from facility construction and equipment repair to specialized engineering systems and fire-protection improvements. By establishing qualified suppliers in advance, the Air Force hopes to reduce the time required to launch individual projects. The initiative also introduces a more flexible contracting approach. This could allow selected infrastructure projects to be awarded faster than through traditional acquisition procedures, helping the service respond more efficiently to changing testing requirements. The AEDC facilities are used to reproduce demanding conditions encountered by aircraft, propulsion systems, sensors, and other aerospace technologies. Their modernization is becoming increasingly important as defense programs move toward higher speeds and more complex operating environments.Future work supported by the alliance is expected to contribute to the testing of hypersonic systems and next-generation sensors. The broader objective is to maintain a modern test environment capable of supporting emerging defense technologies throughout their development cycle.
