The Ministry of Defence on Tuesday signed a ₹1,950 crore contract with state-owned Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the acquisition of two mountain radars along with associated infrastructure for the Indian Air Force.

According to the ministry, the deployment and commissioning of these radars will significantly enhance India’s air defence capabilities and contribute to strengthening overall national security, while also reducing reliance on imported systems.

The mountain radar system has been indigenously designed and developed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) under DRDO and will be produced by BEL.
