The Republic of Korea Air Force has entered into an agreement with QinetiQ to train its aviators at the Empire Test Pilots’ School (ETPS) in the United Kingdom. Founded in the 1940s, ETPS operates under the UK Ministry of Defence and delivers advanced training for military test pilots and flight test personnel across both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. The school, managed by QinetiQ at its Wiltshire facility, has trained over 1,500 participants from 32 partner nations.

As part of the program, two pilots and two engineers from South Korea will undertake a six-month course focused on experimental, developmental, and systems testing. The training combines theoretical instruction with hands-on experience to enhance flying and engineering expertise, encourage critical thinking, and develop the ability to analyze and communicate technical findings effectively.

QinetiQ noted that the program may also include exposure to new aircraft types, as well as opportunities to train alongside UK forces, NATO personnel, and other international partners. Prior to attending the UK-based course, all four participants will complete initial training in South Korea.
