Estonia has signed a contract with Lockheed Martin to acquire three additional M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS). The agreement also includes an investment of approximately $11 million into Estonia’s defense industry, although further specifics have not been disclosed.

This development follows Estonia’s earlier 290-million-euro ($340 million) deal with Hanwha Aerospace to procure at least six K239 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket systems. These systems are intended to complement the first six HIMARS launchers ordered in 2022 and officially delivered in January 2025.

The $11 million investment will be directed toward establishing local maintenance capabilities for HIMARS components within Estonia, ensuring that critical support services are available domestically.

In parallel, Hanwha Aerospace has previously committed a 100-million-euro ($115.5 million) investment package to strengthen Estonia’s defense industrial base. This includes plans to develop a sustainment and repair facility, along with the establishment of an ammunition production plant. The maintenance center will support systems supplied to the Estonian Defense Forces, including both the K9 Thunder self-propelled howitzer and the K239 Chunmoo rocket artillery system.
