Slovakia has received its first Barak MX multi-mission air and missile defense system under a contract finalized in December 2024.

The initial battery, manufactured in Israel, has been deployed at an undisclosed location near critical energy infrastructure, as confirmed by Slovak Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák. He described the site as being positioned at an “intersection between our nuclear power plants,” indicating protection priorities for facilities such as Jaslovské Bohunice and Mochovce.

Integration of the system into the Slovak Armed Forces is expected to continue for several weeks, with Israeli specialists assisting in the process. Local troops have already completed initial training and will undergo further instruction as operational transition progresses.

Under the agreement with Israel Aerospace Industries, valued at 560 million euros ($658.9 million), Slovakia is set to receive up to six batteries, with full delivery scheduled by 2030.

Although the first delivery was initially planned between late 2025 and early 2026, delays occurred due to technical complications and disruptions partly linked to the Iran conflict.

The Barak MX system is capable of intercepting a wide spectrum of aerial threats, including ballistic missiles at ranges of up to 150 kilometers (93 miles), using extended-range interceptors.

It is already operational with the Israeli Navy’s Sa’ar-class corvettes and forms part of the Israeli Air Force’s integrated air defense network.
