Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $1.13-billion contract to manufacture M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems) for the US military and five allied nations.

Issued by the US Army, the contract supports full-rate production of the rocket launcher systems for the US Army and US Marine Corps, along with foreign military sales to Australia, Canada, Estonia, Sweden, and Taiwan.

Production work will be carried out at multiple locations depending on individual orders, with completion scheduled for April 30, 2028.

Foreign Military Sales

HIMARS gained global prominence during the war in Ukraine due to its precision long-range strike capability, rapid “shoot-and-scoot” mobility, and effectiveness against artillery units, logistics hubs, and command centers.

Following its battlefield success, several countries moved to strengthen their long-range firepower with HIMARS acquisitions.

Australia previously committed to acquiring up to 42 launchers and received its first system in March 2025.

Canada is also preparing to field the platform for the first time.

In Europe, Estonia ordered three additional HIMARS units in April, while Sweden secured US approval in March for the purchase of 20 launchers and related munitions, reinforcing NATO’s long-range deterrence posture.

Taiwan recently disclosed major US weapons procurement agreements, including HIMARS purchases valued at $3.9 billion.
