France has ordered 17 Saab Giraffe 1X radar systems to improve its short-range air defense and counter-drone capabilities. The compact 3D radar units will be mounted on Scania tactical vehicles, providing greater mobility and rapid deployment capability for French forces operating in contested environments. Deliveries are scheduled between 2026 and 2027 and include training, spare parts, and support services. Saab and Scania France will jointly oversee production and integration throughout the program. Demand for the Giraffe 1X radar has increased globally due to growing concerns about low-altitude drone threats and the need for flexible mobile surveillance systems.
