Sweden has selected France’s Naval Group to deliver four new frigates for the Swedish Navy in a major international defense procurement agreement. Stockholm chose the French proposal after evaluating competing bids from the UK and Spain, citing faster delivery schedules and strong air defense capabilities. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2030, with each frigate estimated to cost more than $1.1 billion depending on final weapons and equipment packages. The agreement strengthens defense cooperation between Sweden and France while supporting Sweden’s naval modernization plans amid rising security concerns in Europe.
