The US Marine Corps (USMC) has awarded Polaris Government and Defense a new contract for additional MRZR Alpha Ultra-Light Tactical Vehicles (ULTVs), marking the first procurement of the platform’s 5kW exportable power configuration.
The five-year agreement, worth up to $98 million, includes continued manufacturing and delivery of MRZR Alpha vehicles, along with engineering and logistics support from Polaris.
The newly introduced 5kW variant can generate up to 5 kilowatts of power at 24 volts, enabling the vehicle to serve as a mobile energy source for high-demand systems such as tactical edge computing equipment and air defense assets.
The capability also allows Marines to operate forward tactical power grids during littoral missions without relying on standalone generators, while still carrying casualties and mission-essential cargo.
Polaris developed the MRZR Alpha ULTV for rapid deployment, with dimensions suited for transport inside MV-22 Osprey and CH-53 helicopters to support expeditionary operations in contested areas.
More than 500 MRZR Alpha vehicles are currently in USMC service, performing missions ranging from logistics and medical evacuation to infantry maneuver, aircraft refueling, and counter-drone operations.
Alongside the new 5kW model, Polaris also offers a standard 1kW version designed to power lighter electronic systems, communications gear, and sensor packages. Both variants include a three-port fused connector for simultaneous onboard power distribution while stationary or on the move.
The vehicle can carry payloads of up to 2,000 pounds (907 kilograms) and has an operational range of 225 miles (362 kilometers). Built for expeditionary mobility, it accommodates four personnel, provides 12 inches (30 centimeters) of ground clearance at gross vehicle weight, and uses 32-inch tires for enhanced off-road performance.
