Taiwan’s defense authorities are seeking to terminate a NT$987.81 million ($30.5 million) contract for fixed-site counter-unmanned aerial system solutions after the equipment failed to meet required military performance standards. Defense company Tron Future was selected to provide 26 ground-based systems designed to detect low-observable drones at distances of at least 6 kilometers and disrupt them through electronic jamming at ranges of up to 4 kilometers.However, reports indicate that the systems failed prototype verification and two separate acceptance tests. One evaluation reportedly demonstrated a major operational weakness when a commercial drone entered a protected area without being detected by the system. The failures have raised concerns regarding the reliability and effectiveness of the technology, prompting Taipei to consider cancelling the agreement.
